Bill and Francis are from Valve’s über popular zombie shooter Left 4 Dead. They’re a grizzled Vietnam veteran and a misanthropic biker, respectively. Their game is a getting a little old now but their facial hair is rockin’ it just as hard as ever. So hats, or green berets, off to you both!

I have been severely underwhelmed by the E3 trailer of Final Fantasy XIII. I’ve always been an opponent of trailers or advertisements that feature little to no gameplay footage and this trailer does just that. To make matters worse the gameplay that is featured looks flashy and candied, not my taste in an RPG. The menus in the battles look very reminiscent of The Last Remnant, which I also didn’t care for, and the overall feel of the game seems to echo Square Enix’s new approach to games: style over substance. The one bright spot in this soon to be mess (at least to my eyes) is this guy->

His name is Sazh Katzroy (!?) and he’s one of the main characters. I can’t say much else for him or his role but man, check out that slick goatee, not to mention the afro. That’s a cool looking guy. Also the last time they had a cool black guy in a Final Fantasy it was 1997. So, hats off to Sazh’s beard.

P.S. His coolness in-game is utterly canceled out by this guy. Ugh, even his beard sucks.

Ode To Video Game Facial Hair Giants

While Barret Wallace may have been the first bearded character that came to my mind whilst creating this blog it is not because I am without a proper education in the history of Video Game Facial Hair. Final Fantasy VII is one of my favorite games and thusly did that beard spring to my mind. Here I present the Godfathers of the VG Moustache, Mario Mario and Luigi Mario. Proper reverence is demanded by the majestic foliage of their heroic lips. Not content to simply save Princesses/The World, the Mario Brothers opt to do so while cutting their own style across the Mushroom Kingdom. “Just try something smart ass,” their moustaches seem to say,” You’ll get stomped faster than the first goomba from SMB.”

I saw a pair of very specific blogs the other day, one was about hammocks and the other about sandwiches. I felt that I needed to create a super-specific blog myself. So here it is: a blog about facial hair on video game characters. Pretty specific no? It’s late, it’s Thanksgiving and I’m hungover so this will just be an introduction. And a beard. A beard from a video game. It’s a classic, Barret Wallace from Final Fantasy VII. Please, for your consideration I present this vintage VG Beard.
